Kupenda argues that, "Since slavery, African Americans have made sacrifices so that their children and grandchildren could do better, but we need not lose this way of thinking today." Her essay is built from her interests in Race and the Law, her belief in the power of the narrative, and her Business background from her undergraduate finance major at Jackson State University and from her graduate education at the Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania.
