MC's Name Change, And What It Means For MC Law

Mississippi College made the following announcement on November 18, 2024:

After significant review and in preparation for the institution’s 2026 bicentennial, the Mississippi College Board of Trustees today (Nov. 18) approved an institutional name change from Mississippi College to Mississippi Christian University.

This decision underscores MC’s status as a comprehensive university and allows the institution to retain its MC logo and identity.

Why it matters: The institutional name change is a strategic decision that reiterates leadership’s commitment to fulfilling the private university’s vision statement – To be known as a university recognized for academic excellence and commitment to the cause of Christ. Planning for a name change and associated branding efforts will begin immediately, and the new name will take effect in 2026 to coincide with the bicentennial.

In light of that announcement, we wanted to share a few details concerning how this change will affect MC Law:

First, the University’s name change will not go into effect until 2026. Consequently, our 2025 graduates’ diplomas will still read Mississippi College School of Law.

Second, when the name change takes effect in 2026, the law school’s official name will be “Mississippi Christian University School of Law,” but the school will still be referred to as “MC Law” or “MC School of Law.” Our new exterior signage and logos on the MC Law campus buildings and other branding will not change. We will still be MC Law.

In 2025, MC Law will celebrate its 50th Anniversary, and we have some BIG plans in store. Come by our campus, tour our recent renovations, and be a part of all the MOMENTUM we are building for the next 50 years, and beyond!
