MC Law continues to earn national recognition for its leadership in Health Law and Family Law education, recently receiving high marks from PreLaw Magazine for both areas.
The recognition reflects MC Law’s longstanding commitment to preparing students to address some of the most pressing legal needs facing individuals, families, health-care organizations and communities.
In PreLaw Magazine’s 2026 Family Law Honor Roll, MC Law received an A+, recognizing the school’s strong academic and experiential opportunities in family law. The program provides students with opportunities to apply their legal education through the Family & Children’s Law Center, including guardian ad litem, adoption, and youth-court representation for underserved communities throughout Mississippi.
Professor Bonnie Bridgers Smith, who recently joined the MC Law faculty and is the new Director of the Family and Children’s Law Center shared her thoughts on the top rankings: “We are honored to be included in PreLaw Magazine's 2026 Family Law A+ Honor Roll. This recognition reflects the heart of our mission: preparing students to become compassionate, skilled advocates while making a meaningful difference in the lives of families and children across Mississippi. MC Law also earned an A+ on PreLaw Magazine’s 2026 Health Law Honor Roll, placing the school among the nation's recognized leaders in health law education.
The law school's Health Law program combines classroom instruction with practical experiences designed to prepare students for careers in the rapidly evolving healthcare industry. Through the Bioethics & Health Law Center, students have opportunities to engage with healthcare professionals and explore the legal, ethical and business challenges facing the industry.
Under the leadership of Professor Jonathan Will, Director of the Bioethics & Health Law Center, MC Law has expanded its partnerships and initiatives with healthcare industry representatives while creating new opportunities for students to gain practical experience. “It was exciting to see MC Law’s Health Law Program not just acknowledged, but featured in PreLaw Magazine’s most recent publication,” added Professor Will. “This is a testament to the dedication and support of our wonderful students, alums, faculty, and administration who are making a real impact on health policy change both regionally and nationally.”
Dean Anderson said the recognition is particularly meaningful given MC Law’s Christian mission and its commitment to serving the broader community. “In light of our Christian mission, it is fitting that MC Law continues to lead the nation in Health Law and Family Law education and clinical outreach. These are two areas in which the law intersects with the needs of our communities the most. Under Professor Will's leadership as Director of our Bioethics & Health Law Center, MC Law has launched joint initiatives with health-care-industry representatives to support our state and region, and has inspired hundreds of students to careers dedicated to making our healthcare industry more efficient and effective. Our Family & Children's Law Center provides our students opportunities to provide guardian ad litem, adoption, and youth-court representation to our state's under-represented communities. After decades of leadership by Prof. Shirley Kennedy, we are excited for the next chapter for our Family & Children's Law Center under Prof. Bonnie Bridgers Smith!”
