Reverend Jerry and Helen Young
Reverend Jerry and Helen Young

Rev. Jerry Young, who dreamed of becoming an attorney to advocate for justice and equality, was called to ministry instead. Celebrating over 44 years as pastor of New Hope Baptist Church in Jackson, Mississippi, he also serves as president of the National Baptist Convention. Despite his calling, Young never forgot his legal aspirations. In 2022, his congregation honored him with an honorary law degree and established a scholarship at Mississippi College School of Law in his name, supporting students who share his commitment to justice. The scholarship, which honors both Rev. Young and his wife, Helen, aims to inspire future legal leaders from underserved communities. Young’s journey highlights his dedication to service and the impact of community support in fostering access to education and justice.
