American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)

ACLU student chapter page

“So long as we have enough people in this country willing to fight for their rights, we'll be called a democracy” – ACLU founder Roger Baldwin.

In 1920, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) was founded to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and laws for everyone in the nation. As a nonpartisan organization, it works through litigation, advocacy, and community organizing to protect free speech, racial justice, LGBTQ rights, reproductive freedom, and voting rights.

The ACLU student organization is a new student organization that was chartered in Fall of 2025. The student organization was founded by individuals who have a strong passion and interest in civil liberties in the nation, as well as in the state of Mississippi.

The goals of the ACLU student organization are;

(1) To inform the students of MC Law of the importance of the ACLU and the role that it serves in the nation;

(2) To generate conversation about present civil rights violations within the country; and

(3) To create networking opportunities for those interested in civil rights litigation.
