Franklin D. Rosenblatt

Associate Professor of Law


Professor Franklin D. Rosenblatt is an associate professor who came to MC Law in 2021. He writes and teaches on topics including constitutional law, evidence, international criminal law, and military justice.  



Before becoming a full-time law professor, Professor Rosenblatt first-chaired litigation in federal and state courts at a major law firm in Mississippi. Before that served in the U.S. Army JAG Corps as a prosecutor, legal advisor, and defense counsel, including as lead military defense counsel for Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl in the most publicized court-martial in American history.



A recognized expert in military justice, Professor Rosenblatt serves as the President of the National Institute of Military Justice, an organization devoted to the fair administration of justice in military tribunals. He is also an appointed Special Master for terrorism cases for the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia and a Court of Appeals Judge for the Mississippi Army National Guard. 


Professor Rosenblatt has published numerous law review articles, book chapters, and is finishing his fifth book. His legal commentary regularly appears in national media and he has been invited to speak to law schools and institutions around the world. He has filed amicus briefs at courts including the United States Supreme Court and the International Criminal Court in The Hague, where he presented oral argument in 2022. He recently co-founded a new international law journal, Forces Law Review. This year he serves as chair of the 800-member international human rights section for the Association of American Law Schools. 


Professor Rosenblatt continues to represent clients in national security cases and maintains a robust pro bono practice representing Mississippi juveniles who have been sentenced to life without parole. 


Professor Rosenblatt has been selected by students for numerous awards, including best moot court coach (2022), best pro bono contributions (2022, 2024, 2025), BLSA Professor of the Year (2024), Order of Barristers honorary member (2025), and Professor of the Year (2023, 2024, 2025, 2026). He was also selected by the faculty as the law school's nominee for University Professor of the Year (2025).
