Alum Jana J. Edmondson-Cooper Named Recipient of 2016 GCEO Freedom Award
Attorney Jana J. Edmondson-Cooper (’09) recently received the Georgia Commission on Equal Opportunity (GCEO) 2016 Freedom Award for outstanding advocacy against discrimination in the housing sector and beyond, regarding her language access work. She was presented with the award by Governor Nathan Deal and GCEO Executive Director Melvin Everson during a private ceremony on April 19, 2016 in the Office of the Governor.
Two awards are given annually by GCEO - one for the employment sector and one for the housing sector. Attorney Edmondson-Cooper is a Bilingual Staff Attorney with Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP).
A Spelman College graduate, Edmondson-Cooper is also a member of the Supreme Court of Georgia Commission on Interpreters and uses her bilingual abilities in furthering language access as an access to justice issue. Edmondson-Cooper is a prior recipient of the MC Law LRAP award, which is given to alumni who have devoted their careers to public service. She was also named the 2014 MC Law Young Lawyer of the Year.
