Order of Barristers
The Order of Barristers is a national honorary organization that seeks to encourage oral advocacy and brief writing skills through effective law school oral advocacy programs. Having originated in 1965 before expanding on a national basis, the Order’s initial purpose was to honor graduating law students who had demonstrated outstanding ability in the preparation and presentation of moot appellate argument. The Order now provides national recognition for individuals who have excelled in advocacy and service at their respective schools. Schools having chapters in the Order include those nationally recognized for outstanding moot court programs and for successful participation in regional, national, and international interscholastic moot court competitions.
On April 23, 2009, eight graduating third-year students were inducted into the Order of Barristers. The induction ceremony was held at the first annual Advocacy Awards Dinner at the University Club in Jackson, MS. Inductees were Jeremy Clay, Kelly Hollingsworth, Andrew Holmes, Mason Montgomery, Ashley Nader, Lindsey Oswalt, Kaytie Pickett, and Justin Starling. Also inducted, as an honorary member, was Jody Owens of Butler, Snow, O'Mara, Stevens & Cannada.
