Mississippi College School of Law hosted the regional ABA Arbitration Competition November 8-9, 2008 in Jackson, Mississippi. A total of 10 teams from 7 law schools participated in the competition: Emory (1 team), Samford (1 team), George Washington (1 team) , Ole Miss (1 team), Missouri-Columbia (2 teams), D.C. (1 team) and MCSOL (3 teams) .

The rules permit each school to enter two teams. However, when George Washington's second team withdrew, MCSOL--as the host school--was allowed to enter a third team.

A MCSOL team comprised of Mason Montgomery and Matt McDade as attorneys, and Sarah Beth Wilson and Taylor Polk as witnesses, defeated a team from the University of Missouri-Columbia in the final round to capture the regional title.

MCSOL’s second team, comprised of Marc Bryant and Jessica Pitts as attorneys, and Ryan Revere and Jessica Bates as witnesses, were semifinalists and ultimately ranked third in the region.

The third team from MCSOL, comprised of Buddy Handey and Zach Jett as attorneys, and Tripp Segars and Brittney Rosen as witnesses, were also semifinalists and ultimately ranked fourth in the region.

In sum, MCSOL teams placed first, third and fourth in the competition. MCSOL anticipates that all 4 semifinalists teams (including the 3 MCSOL teams) will receive bids to compete in the national competition in San Antonio, Texas in January 2009.
