
Gerald J. "Joey" Diaz ‘72 takes over as 45th President of MTLA
Gerald J. “Joey” Diaz, Jr. ‘72, of Jackson became the 45th president of the Mississippi Trial Lawyers Association (MTLA) during the Annual Convention Banquet ceremony in New Orleans on June 8. Diaz succeeds outgoing president John F. Hawkins of Jackson.
Diaz, elected President-elect in 2006, is a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi and Mississippi College School of Law. Diaz has practiced law for over 25 years in Jackson at his firm The Diaz Law Firm. During his career, he has also served as a public defender in Hinds County.
“I am very grateful for the opportunity to lead our association in this new and exciting era,” states Diaz. “As an association, and as a profession, we are committed to preserving the integrity and strength of today’s court system for the people of Mississippi, and I look forward to working with groups and individuals across the state to make this possible.”
Diaz is a native of Biloxi. Also active with the American Association for Justice, Diaz has served as State Delegate Chairman for AAJ. He has taught classes on legal writing and research and serves as a mentor in the trial advocacy program at Mississippi College School of Law.
