The amount that a student can receive in financial aid from all sources is capped by MCSOL's Cost of Attendance ("COA"). The COA is basically a budget, and includes tuition and fees, and an allowance for books and supplies, room and board, transportation, miscellaneous/personal expenses. Sources for financial aid include loans, academic scholarships, and outside assistance that a student might receive. Budgets for first year students entering 2007-2008 year are as follows:

Fall/Spring Budget
Summer/Fall/Spring Budget
Tuition and Fees (30 hrs.) $25,020.00 Tuition and Fees (31 hrs.) $25,020.00
Books and Supplies 1,050.00 Books and Supplies 1,250.00

Room and Board 10,125.00 Room and Board 12,375.00
Transportation 3,600.00 Transportation 4,400.00
Personal/Misc Exp. 4,050.00 Personal/Misc Exp. 4,950.00
TOTAL
$43,845.00
TOTAL
$48,860.00

Budgets are only a guideline, and no substitute for your own assessment of how much you will need as a minimum for law school. However, the total amount of financial aid you receive may not exceed the school's COA. Unless you have a serious, documented emergency expense the Financial Aid Office cannot increase the standard cost of attendance for you. Please note that federal regulations prohibit the Financial Aid Office from providing loan funds to students for covering expenses related to owning a car, moving expenses, credit card debt, bar review courses, bar exam fees, job interview costs. Therefore, allowances for these expenses are not included in the Cost of Attendance Budget.
