STUDENTS IN THE COMMUNITY: 3L Valerie Mims Visits Canton Elementary School
On October 18, 2018, 3L Valerie Mims visited Canton Elementary School for its Career Fair and talked with students about careers in the law. According to Assistant Principal and Instructional Specialist Alma Moore, the Career Fair is designed to give students a range of ideas and options for their futures. Canton Elementary enjoys a diverse student body with Black, Hispanic, and White students.
"The students really enjoyed talking with Valerie about the legal field and requirements for becoming a lawyer,” said Moore. “They also enjoyed all of the wonderful treats! Canton Elementary School was blessed with Valerie's presence.”
Mims, who serves as President of the R. Jess Brown Black Law Students Association, routinely participates in community involvement. In addition to her work on campus, she is a volunteer with the NAACP. She is currently working on an article about Brown v. Board of Education, the Brown generation, and the children/grandchildren of Brown, in the Race and the Law Seminar.
Valerie Mims expects to earn her J.D. in 2019. She is a graduate of Alabama A&M University.
