The Mission First Legal Aid Office has partnered with Hinds Community College (HCC) to establish a Community College Legal Clinic. The program, which was officially launched October 1, 2018, will offer a total of eight legal workshops during the 2018-2019 academic school year. The workshops will be conducted on one of four HCC campuses, including Jackson, Raymond, Utica, and Vicksburg. Four legal clinics will be offered during the fall semester, and four in the spring semester. “This partnership provides Mission First Legal Aid Office an opportunity to broaden its reach and become a necessary component to an array of services provided to students at Hinds Community College in an effort to alleviate challenges they may face during the course of their undergraduate studies,” says Carlyn Hicks '10, director of Mission First Legal Aid Office.

The clinic will be coordinated by Hicks and the District Single Stop Coordinator at the Raymond campus, with the assistance of the Single Stop Site Coordinators at the Jackson and Vicksburg campuses.

The clinic workshops, which will be available to all students, will include conducting one of the four clinics at the Nursing Allied Health Center during the spring 2019 semester. The clinics will encompass a range of topics, including student loan debt, fair housing, criminal record expungement, and family law matters. Hicks says, “We are excited about the opportunity to offer legal workshops throughout the academic year and provide pro bono legal services to students who qualify for our services."
