MC Law to Host Mayoral Debate
JACKSON - The League of Women Voters of the Jackson Area (LWVJA) is partnering with The Clarion-Ledger and Mississippi College School of Law to hold a live streamed Jackson mayoral candidate debate before a live audience.
The debate will be 7:00pm-8:30 pm on Friday, April 28 at the Mississippi College School of Law Student Auditorium, 151 E. Griffith St. in downtown Jackson.
The Clarion-Ledger will live stream the debate on clarionledger.com or fb.com/clarionledger. Sam Hall, Executive Editor and Jimmie E. Gates, Legislative & Court Reporter, from The Clarion-Ledger are the moderators.
Because of the time and space constraints of a live streaming program, as well as the large number of candidates, LVWJA and The Clarion-Ledger used impartial criteria to limit the number of candidates participating. Participants were selected on the basis of four of the following five campaign criteria evident as of April 12: press releases, public appearances, a campaign office that is not in the candidate’s home, paid campaign staff, and political advertising.
The Clarion-Ledger has determined that six candidates meet these criteria: Ronnie C. Crudup, Jr., Sidney H. Gladney, Robert Graham, John Horhn, Chokwe A. Lumumba and Tony T. Yarber
LWVJA and The Clarion-Ledger are soliciting questions for the candidates in advance of the debate. Questions may be submitted to the LWVJA by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Efforts will be made to ask as many questions as possible while allowing for meaningful dialogue.
