“Pelicia Hall has become the first female commissioner of the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

Gov. Phil Bryant named Hall, who had been interim commissioner, to the post permanently on Monday.

“I am honored to accept the appointment as commissioner of the Mississippi Department of Corrections, and I am committed to implementing positive reforms that will forever change the perception of our state’s corrections system," Hall said Monday. "Criminal justice reform is at the forefront of our nation, and it is imperative that we focus on rehabilitation of those incarcerated in our system to turn those persons into productive citizens while continuing our mission to provide public safety. In keeping with this mission, I have instituted Operation Zero Tolerance.”

“Pelicia’s previous experience within the Department of Corrections has made it clear that she is the perfect choice to lead the agency,” Governor Phil Bryant said in a news release announcing his choice. “I know she will continue her outstanding service to the people of Mississippi, and I am delighted she has agreed to accept this appointment.”
