Carlyn Hicks ('10) to Present at National Parent Attorney Conference
Carlyn Hicks (’10) is scheduled to present at the 5th National Parent Attorney Conference with the American Bar Association Center on Children and the Law. The conference will take place April 25 - 26 in Tysons Corner, Va.
Every two years, the ABA Center on Children and the law holds two national conferences for attorneys, judges, legislators, advocates, and nonprofit leaders who promote access to justice for families and children.
Hicks, along with co-presenters Sherri Freemont (Casey Family Programs) and Addie Smith (Youth Rights & Justice), will present, “A New Way Forward: Strategies and Solutions for a More Diverse Child Welfare Attorney Workforce.”
The panel will examine and question why the workforce of child and parent attorneys is still so unrepresentative of the diversity of the families being served, and how solutions, answers, and awareness can be attained. The session will be collaborative, and ask for participants’ answers to these questions, in an effort to facilitate an ongoing national conversation regarding this challenge.
Carlyn Hicks is the Parent Representation Program Director (Mission First), the Clinical Supervising Attorney for the Child Welfare and Family Justice Clinic at MC Law, and the Chairman of the Mississippi Bar Association Child Welfare and Child Advocacy Committee,
In 2015, Hicks was the recipient of the National Child Advocacy Award from the ABA’s Young Lawyers Division.
