A location that works
Let's face it. In today's competitive marketplace, it isn't necessarily enough to just have a law degree. Students need experience to back them up. Our downtown location offers many part-time employment opportunities during the academic year as well as summer positions, externships and clerkships.
With a metropolitan area population of more than 400,000, Jackson offers big city amenities with small town hospitality. Known as the "Crossroads of the South," Jackson lies halfway between Memphis and New Orleans , and the popular destinations of Vicksburg , Natchez , and the Gulf Coast are only a short drive away.
Jackson truly encompasses the best of the "New South." It is a regional arts center steeped in history, literature, performing arts, music and sports. It is the only venue in the United States for the International Ballet Competition, which brings dancers from around the world. Productions by the Mississippi Opera, New Stage professional theater, Mississippi Symphony and traveling Broadway shows offer a delightful mix of comedy, drama and musical theatre.
There's something for everyone.
The Mississippi Museum of Art sponsors national traveling exhibitions, as well as locally organized shows. The Davis Planetarium, Jackson Zoo and Mississippi Museum of Natural Science provide fun family entertainment. And each spring the Jubilee!JAM festival brings entertainers from around the country to downtown Jackson for widely-anticipated outdoor music.
The Barnett Reservoir, just north of Jackson, is a 30,000 acre haven for outdoor recreation. And for the sport enthusiast Jackson and its environs are the home to the Mississippi Braves, a Double A minor league team for the Atlanta Braves.
Jackson is on the forefront of technology, particularly in the telecommunications field. The Southeast's most advanced, state-of-the-art conference center is located downtown. It is also Mississippi 's healthcare capital with eleven hospitals, including the nationally renowned University of Mississippi Medical Center, Baptist Medical Center , and St. Dominic's Memorial Hospital .
Every major church denomination is represented in the city and there are more than 400 houses of worship scattered throughout the 105 square miles of community. Seven colleges and universities are located within 15 miles of Jackson's center.
Mississippi is called the " Hospitality State" for good reason. When you cross the state line, you'll feel the difference. Mississippians are among the friendliest people in the world. And the Law School is an extension of that. Come experience the South at its best.
